Laundry Room Interior Design in Orange County, Los Angeles CA

For an active, sporty family of four, dirty laundry is inevitable.

So why not make the chore of laundry more enjoyable?

Such was the quest of my clients.

This room was basically a closet. I remodeled and expanded the space to make it a continuation of the rest of the coastal Southern California home. The floor tiles are cheerful in color and pattern, yet extremely practical. Because they are commercial grade and have virtually no grout lines, they are indestructible and do not collect grime. I designed the room around the dimensions of the washer and dryer, so form definitely follows function. I also created ample storage space for washing supplies as well as sporting necessities. Now, instead of being a space my client dreaded to enter, the laundry room is an inviting place to be. And I am willing to bet laundry gets done more quickly and effortlessly because of it.

Sincerely,

 Alicia

Itchin’ for a New Kitchen

What comes to mind when I see my client’s kitchen with textured yellow tile countertops and brown vinyl floors? It’s time to remodel!

(Before)

The basic footprint of the kitchen was proper, so I kept it in tact. What it was in need of was substantial updating. I replaced the dated appliances, plumbing, electrical, cabinets, flooring, countertops, backsplashes, window treatments, paint, moldings, table, chairs, and bench cushions with new.

Now the kitchen is the heart of the home it should be: sophisticated, serene and sleek.

Master Bathroom Interior Design in Orange County, Los Angeles CA

This pink bathroom was all wrong. The color: Pepto-Bismol pink marble with gold faucets. The layout: large vanity with only one sink, toilet in the center of the room, tiny shower, and tub which acted solely as a clothes hamper. Perhaps this bathroom was once “hip,” but it did not go at all in my clients’ modern home.

(Before)

(Before)

I converted the vanity from single to double, rid the unused tub, and doubled the size of the shower. I relocated the toilet to its own private corner, shower to the opposite wall, and created a space for the clothes hampers. The floor tiles, glass wall tiles, Cesar Stone countertops, plumbing and electrical are all new-and-improved.

Now this renovated master bathroom is a private paradise.

Alicia Friedmann Interior Design, LLC is Staging for Success!

Three months ago, we staged three homes for sale.

As a result, they all sold within two months of being on the market.

Staging a home sells it faster and for more money.

Staged homes sell because they evoke emotion and create memory in the buyer’s mind.

Staged homes show the buyer how comfortable, inviting, clean, and useable their new home will be.

The buyers liked the décor so much in this second home they offered to purchase the furniture along with the house!

If you or someone you know is looking to sell a home in the near future, please let us know! We’d love to help!

Sincerely,

 Alicia Friedmann and Myrna Simon

Costa Mesa Bathroom Remodel

(Before)

(Before)

(Before)

This is what my clients’ bathroom in Costa Mesa, CA looked like after the roots of a rubber tree invaded the space. The obstruction caused the toilet to leak, thus destroying the bathroom, and inspiring the clients to demolish the entire area.

(After)

(After)

(After)

This is what a bathroom looks like after I redid it.

Before, there was a double-sink vanity across from a walk-in closet, each of which consisted of mostly wasted space. The toilet and shower were crammed into a small walled-off section.

I repositioned everything around to make the bathroom and closet look and feel more expansive. First, I moved the wall dividing the two areas to create a larger bathroom. I separated the single vanity into individual his-and-her vanities and relocated these into the bathroom area. The closet became its own area, and I divided it into his-and-her sections.

I replaced the space-consuming swinging doors with a pocket door which separates the bathroom from the closet and a barn door which separates the closet from the master bedroom. The closets are now neatly tucked away behind the soft curtains.

The theme of the bathroom is “rustic modern.” Therefore, I mixed the tumbled marble and slate tiles with the polished chrome fixtures, fittings, hardware and lighting. I designed the vanity cabinets and wall cabinets and had them custom-made. The cabinets, doors and moldings are finished to my custom specifications.

Thus, this master bathroom has been restored from ruins to an oasis ready to cleanse and restore the mind and body.

Sincerely,

 Alicia

Home Office

Ever since I posted the blog on 09.14.09 about my new home, clients and friends alike have been asking me for an update on the progress. So, here’s the update!

These are the before pictures of my home office:

As you can see, the space was cheerful, inviting…and boring.

Based on the answers I gave myself on the Alicia Friedmann Introspective Design Study (AFIDS), I knew it was essential that my office inspired me to be creative and productive. I needed a space that captivated me, beckoned me to enter, and tempted me not to leave. This way I would be completely engrossed in my work and continually motivated to best serve my clients.

Here it is:

My new office is the place where I (-and only I?-) function best. The walls are covered in Benjamin Moore Caribbean Blue Water, the color of my personal utopia. The vibrant color is at-once stimulating and calming, transporting my mind to the ideal mental state for working. I love each accessory on the shelves and each piece of art on the walls. Each collectible has a story and plays a role in making me smile while running my business.

I am a big fan of efficiency. That is why I utilize a mobile and accessible filing system (instead of clunky metal filing cabinets). The desk is the perfect size to house my computer, pad of paper, writing and drawing tools, and the rest of my organizational system. I removed the closet doors, thus giving me open access to my design library.

Clients and friends often ask me what my personal design style is. As you can see- it is unique, something I expect never to do for a client. By sharing it with you, I feel I have shared a big piece of me.

Sincerely,

 Alicia
